The off-trail stream scramble up to Victoria Peak is a fantastic jungle adventure just minutes from the heart of Hong Kong's bustling city centre. After a heavy rain, the normally dry stream bed fills with rushing water, creating a lush, green oasis teeming with biodiversity. As you make your way up the rocky, slippery streambed, you'll be surrounded by towering bamboo, ferns, and other verdant foliage. Keep an eye out for a newly discovered colony of Chinese Water Dragon, lizards up to a meter long. The air is cool and refreshing, a welcome respite from the humidity of the city below. The 3-hour journey involves a fair amount of bouldering and wading through the stream, so be prepared to get very wet. But the effort is well worth it - as you reach the upper reaches of the stream, the dense forest opens up, revealing stunning views of Victoria Peak and the sprawling urban landscape beyond. It's a hidden gem that offers city dwellers a chance to immerse themselves in nature, just a stone's throw from the skyscrapers.
